Migrate Music Review: Mare – S/T

Mare is a band whose life lasted much shorter than it should have. They combined an incredible mixture of sludge, doom metal, avant-garde and post rock in a way that has not been rivaled to date. Their first, and only, release was a S/T five song EP that was released in 2004 by Hydra Head Records. The album mixes elements similar to Kayo-Dot, with heavy, down tuned guitar work and vocals that were at times both hauntingly beautiful and clean and at other times frightening, desperate screams. The album carries with it a melodic groove that carries on throughout. One of the most interesting elements implemented by Mare was their use of glossolalia. Check out this album no matter what kind of music you are into. It’s one of my favorites and has been for a long time. Which you can purchase from Hydra Head, here: HYDRA HEAD STORE
